I have been struck recently having started a business account with a main street bank how we have become mired in complexity. Endless phone calls, endless excuses, never speaking to the same person twice and quite frankly rank incompetency. Unfortunately I can draw parallels to my own experience in EMS. We operate within a system of Byzantine complexity. It seems that complexity and change have become the new altar at which senior staff worship and the result is the dilution of responsibility and accountability. A confusing ever more complex maze of policies and procedures that are always in a state of flux means clear lines of accountability are blurred into obscurity all resulting from management by committee and consensus. Challenge has bowed to conformity. The awkward questions are no longer asked allowing assumption and false belief to take the place
