Parental Presence During a Cardiac Arrest?

This narrative by a Paramedic who is now finishing med school discusses the pros and cons of parental presence during paediatric cardiac arrest. Having worked in a paediatric hospital CHOA on their transport team out of the PICU and ER I have participated in many paediatric cardiac arrests. I cannot think of a time that the parents ever were a distraction during the code. What is your practice? Do you allow family to observe the code or do you segregate them? At the end of the day what does the evidence show?
